New From Fenty: The Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer and Setting Powder

New From Fenty – The Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer and Setting Powder

Oh Fenty Fenty Fenty… I never wanted to love a brand more. At the beginning it was all amazing… but then I started to try more. And the more I try the less I love. Sure, every brand has some things I love and others I just can’t get on with. But I needed Fenty to be THAT brand. But unfortunately it’s not.

All right, here we go again. New year new Fenty releases. The concealer and powder everybody is talking about. Of course, you know Fenty, shade ranges are not an issue here. We have 50 concealer shades, 8 shades of setting powders. I got the concealer in shade 150 it’s a tad too light for me. But I never knew my foundation shade, so I couldn’t compare. But the shades are supposed to be a tad lighter than the corresponding foundation. And the powder I chose is Butter, which is perfect for setting.

I know Fenty complexion product to be dry. The foundation I didn’t even try, my dry skin starts to shake at the thought. The match stix are dry as well, but as I use in small amounts and on top of more hydrating foundations and in less dry areas I have no issues. In my review I mentioned how I would never use lighter colours for concealer as it would be too dry. So when miss Rihanna says “here are the creamy concealers” I kinda thought I could get along with those.

My thoughts on the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Concealer

I do understand there are different skin types, I do. But I don’t know who would need something this dry on the under eyes. Do people even have oily under eyes? This concealer looks like cake on my face. No matter the applicator I use, brush or sponge the result is no good.

First of all, it’s difficult to spread, and therefore blend. With most concealers I start with a dot under my inner eye corners and start blending from there. But I can’t get it to move half an inch. I mean it sure as hell doesn’t crease, but it’s just too darn stiff.

I do have a bit of texture in that part of my face, but it’s barely noticeable without makeup and even less with any concealer. I swear I never felt more conscious about my under eyes as I do with this concealer on.

When I tried with an oil and a very hydrating cream underneath and only applying with a sponge the result is definitely better. It looks smoother and doesn’t accentuate texture as much, it’s obviously not as dry. But it does crease a lot more, which forces me to use powder and bring back the dry texture in this formula that I hate so much. The coverage, which I considered to be medium before, is a little more sheer with this type of application.

I don’t hate it nearly as much with these precautions but it’s still not something I’d pick up considering I have a 3€ Wet N Wild concealer that performs so so much better with no extra work.

My thoughts on the Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Powder

Then we have the powder. It smells nice, but not strongly, so we’re starting well. Considering it’s a loose powder and that’s one of the things I hate the most in my life, it’s really good. It mattifies but I don’t feel like my skin has been stripped of all moisture. And it doesn’t make it look dryer or powdery. I actually notice my skin looking smoother and more perfect? I never pay attention to my pores but with this, I feel like they’re non-existent. I do try to apply very little of this. But if I go heavier it still feels fine and not overly drying. I’m actually really surprised by how much I like it.

Even though the powder is really good, the concealer was a real disappointment. I know it’s going to be a long time before I try a new Fenty complexion product.
