Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer

After only relying on the Wet ‘n’ Wild Photo Focus Concealer for a year and some time I decided it was time to branch out. I’ve been on a huge Nars kick lately so I decided to pick the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer, amongst others (thanks to the Sephora sale) to try.

I usually stay away from any matte face product, as my skin tends to be dry. I didn’t have high expectations because of this. I’m happy to report that this has become my new go-to concealer.

The product comes in a pot and has a thin creamy consistency. It is not heavy at all, in fact, it’s very much weightless on the skin. Despite being lightweight it does offer a very nice amount of coverage, I would say medium to high. On most days I’m good applying a soft layer and everything is nicely covered. But on those days I’m always able to build layer over layer (no more than 3 sheer ones) until no one could ever know I only got 3 hours of sleep.

The creasing is minimal. I never believed possible for any concealer to be completely creaseless without setting. But this goes as close to it as it can. On most days when I don’t need to apply much I love applying the product with my finger. This helps me apply the right amount and makes the formula melt into my skin. I find that when I do so, it doesn’t even crease at all…

Even if I mostly love using my finger for application. It applies really nicely with brushes or sponges as well. Again, on a day to day basis I want to apply the littlest amount possible. It is an expensive product after all, but mostly because a little really goes a long way. So even with brushes and sponges I still make sure to pick up the minimum amount and build up little by little when and where needed.

Here’s a little before and after.

The finish is obviously matte, but the consistency stays the same. So even after a long day the product still feels just like when first applied. And it looks pretty much the same too. It does emphasize dry spots though. So better make sure the skin is exfoliated and moisturized.

I never thought I was going to fall this bad for a matte product that’s not an eyeshadow or a lipstick.

The Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer range includes 16 shades and retails for 30$/24£/30.50€

Can you suggest more matte face products that do well with dry skin?

(I’m looking at the new Nyx foundation at the moment…)
